Tesla shared its patents to fight climate change

In 2014, Elon Musk, the C.E.O of Tesla, announced that his company would make all its patents public so that other manufacturers could benefit from them.

The objective behind was simple; accelerating the fight against climate change and contribute to saving the planet.

Elon Musk is sometimes known for his controversies, but it must be admitted that he has a visionary soul.

Tesla Motors – a sustainable form of transportation

“The company will not prosecute anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technologies. »

“Tesla Motors exist to fast-track the development of a sustainable form of transportation. By opening a path to the creation of a world full of electric vehicles but leave a minefield behind to prevent others from moving forward, we would be acting against our primary goal.”

In his reflection, which he took further, he made some laudable comments. In the beginning, he wishes to protect patients by staying competitive ahead other manufacturers with more resources. He realised that despite everything, electric vehicle production remained very marginal across the industry.

With 100 million new vehicles built every year around the world, he understood that Tesla could not assemble enough cars to have an impact on the fight against emissions. By allowing other companies to use the technologies developed by his firm, he hopes to accelerate the process.

Now, the rest of the story depends on what other manufacturers are doing with these patents. The ultimate goal remains to achieve a world where the automobile will have a less devastating impact on the environment.
