For two days, 80 troops trained in combat. They tested the American manufacturer’s robot for the first time.
The eighty soldiers from Morbihan’s Saint-Cyr Cotquidan school studied with Boston Dynamics’ “Spot”, a quadruped robot. The robot is now in operation by the Massachusetts police in the United States. The New York police are currently testing it.
The Army conducted multiple simulations, with and without a robot, during this experiment, which took place on March 30 and 31, 2021, to assess the possible contribution of these robotic systems. According to Ouest France, three scenarios were carried out: an offensive operation with the capturing of a crossroads, a defensive action by day and then by night, and an urban warfare activity.
During these drills, other robotics were presented, such as the ground observation drone “Nerva” produced by the French industrial company Nexter. The new multipurpose tactical robot, Ultro, from the same manufacturer was also introduced. A fully electric and quiet vehicle capable of moving up to 600 kilos. Robots that could help save lives, especially during reconnaissance missions.
